President Obama addressed union members in Milwaukee today, rolling out a new infrastructure program, that is intended to create jobs, jobs, jobs. The $50 Billion program, not called stimulus, is intended, according to the President to rebuild America's infrastructure. The program is to rebuild roads, railways and runways. Combative and in campaign mode, Obama assaulted the GOP as the culprit for causing the hard times Americans are experiencing.
The U.S. Combat Mission in Iraq has officially been ended, as 50,000 U.S. troops remain in that country.
President Obama has stated that all U.S. troops will be out of Iraq by
the end of 2011. Skeptics believe that U.S. troops will be there well
beyond that time line. The death toll in Afghanistan is now approaching
the 1200 mark for U.S. troops, last week having been particularly
deadly. The Taliban are not taking the U.S./NATO surge lying down.
The White House announced that Chief Master Sergeant Richard L. Etchberger will, posthumously, be awarded the Medal of Honor on September 21st in a ceremony at the White House. Etchberger’s sons, Cory and Richard Etchberger and Steve Wilson, will
join President Barack Obama at the White House to honor their father.
As we are nearing the end of this "Summer of Recovery" one has to wonder if we need to recover from the recovery. Today's job figures are a bit of good news and bad news. While the Unemployment Rate rose to 9.6%, the private sector added jobs, while the temporary Census Workers became unemployed.
