As the world watched the World Cup final, 64 people's lives ended in Uganda as they watched the same televised game.  Terrorist have stuck once again, and claimed innocent victims that were no threat to anyone, and were trying to simply enjoy a sport that is followed by so many throughout the world.

With the prospect of becoming rich from trying to extract gold in Nigeria, no safety measures were used.  Children are dying, are sick, and blind due to lead poisoning from the residue of crushing rocks to find gold.   Whole households are contaminated with lead.  The digging for gold is deemed illegal, however, the residents of these poor villages had no idea of what they would be dealing with in regards to lead poisoning.   This video covers the village of Zamfara, however, it is speculated that this is much more widespread, and that it is a "state of emergency."  At first, Malaria was suspected, however, blood samples sent to Germany, revealed the real cause of the ailments and deaths.... to be lead poisoning.

Controversial Italian dam-builders Salini Costruttori are embroiled in a new dispute over allegations they leveled at Survival. The clash began after Salini’s project to build Africa’s tallest dam on Ethiopia’s Omo River provoked a storm of criticism.

Salini accused Survival of claiming that the dam’s reservoir would be 15 times its actual size. Survival has made no such claim. We have challenged Salini to substantiate or withdraw the accusation, but they have remained silent.

Survival is appealing to sports giant Puma to disinvest from tourism company Wilderness Safaris over a lodge it has built on land belonging to the Bushmen of Botswana.

Puma bought a 20% stake in the company via a private placement shortly before its listing on the Botswana and Johannesburg stock exchanges on 8th April.

The US State Department’s latest human rights report hascriticized the Botswana government for its ‘continued narrow interpretation’ of the 2006 High Court ruling that granted the Bushmen the right to return to their ancestral lands.

The report states that although the ruling recognized the Bushmen’s constitutional right to live on their lands in the Central Kalahari Game Reserve, the majority are ‘being prohibited from returning to or hunting’ in the reserve. It found that many Bushmen have not returned to their land because ‘lack of water made [the reserve] an extremely inhospitable environment’.
