Original Post - Updates Below: As Tropical Storm Hermine is in the Gulf of Mexico and strengthening, hurricane watches have been issued for the area from Rio San Fernando, Mexico to Baffin Bay, Texas.  Hermine is being predicted to possibly become a hurricane before making landfall.

As of this writing, T.S. Hermine has a wind speed of 60mph, and once over 74mph, will become a hurricane.  The movement is at NNW at 15mph.

Guatemala President Alvaro Colom has delcared a national emergency after at least 38 people have been killed by mudslided from the torrential rains from a tropical depression that is sweeping over the country.

Two buses have been hit by the mudslides, as well four children and two adults are known to have been buried under additonal mudslides.

While people track Hurricane Danielle out in the Atlantic far to the east of the eastern coast of the United States, swimmers and surfers are being warned of increased riptides as Danielle mixes up the surf over the weekend.

According to the National Weather Service, larger waves are already reachings some areas of the east coast, caused by Danielle.

Tropical storms are picking up in Atlantic, as predicted.  There are three tropical areas that are being monitored at this point.  Hurricane Danielle, a category 2 storm, Tropical Storm Earl, and yet another tropical system just south of Cape Verde.

Hurricane Danielle looks like it will miss making landfall on the East coast of the United States, and is predicted to miss Bermunda as well.
